No art background is required. We set out the canvas, brushes, and paints. You bring the conversation — and, for adult paint and sip, your favorite BYOB drinks if you like.

What a paint and sip night is like

Artist People is a family art studio in Middlesex County. Public paint and sip events are our adult nights: a theme or reference painting, step-by-step instruction, and a relaxed room of first-timers and return guests.

A typical evening:

• Check in a few minutes early so you can find seats together
• Get a brief intro to the painting and materials
• Follow the instructor in layers (background, shapes, details)
• Take photos, chat, and finish at your own pace
• Carry your painting home when it is dry enough to travel

Seats are limited by class size, so the calendar is the reliable way to lock a date.

Why it works as a date night

A studio night gives you a shared project instead of staring at a phone. You do not have to be “good at art.” The instructor is there so both of you can keep up.

It also photographs well for a simple night out in New Jersey: purple studio lighting, a finished canvas, and a memory you can hang at home.

What to bring (and what we provide)

We provide the canvas, paints, brushes, aprons, and instruction.

You bring:

• Comfortable clothes you do not mind getting a little paint on
• Closed-toe shoes are a good idea in a working studio
• For adult paint and sip: BYOB if you want wine, beer, or a non-alcoholic drink (follow NJ law and our house rules; we do not serve alcohol)
• A light sweater — studios can run cool under ventilation

Leave the easel-at-home pressure at the door. The point is to try something together, not to copy a museum piece on the first night.

Kids classes, camps, and private parties

Date night is only one of the ways families use the studio:

Can we paint the same picture? Yes. Most public nights follow one guided image so everyone finishes a similar piece.

How long is a session? Check the event listing. Many adult nights run about two to three hours including setup and wrap-up.
